The Wegovy pill (oral Wegovy) is approved abroad but not registered in Singapore, so no doctor here can prescribe it. It is a once-daily semaglutide tablet of up to 25 mg, approved for weight management in the US, UK, UAE and EU (FDA; MHRA; Novo Nordisk report). The tablet registered here is Rybelsus, at 3, 7 and 14 mg, for type 2 diabetes only (Singapore NDF).
The approvals came in the United States on 22 December 2025, the United Kingdom on 11 June 2026, the United Arab Emirates in June 2026 and the European Union in July 2026 (FDA; MHRA; Novo Nordisk report). Rybelsus is a different semaglutide product.
Availability in Singapore. This medicine is not available in Singapore. It is not registered with the Health Sciences Authority, so no doctor here can prescribe it and there is no legitimate local supply. Anything offered under this name in Singapore is coming from outside the regulated system, and what that actually means is set out here.
Education only. This page is general education about a medicine that is not registered in Singapore. It is not an advertisement or an offer. GetLean does not prescribe or supply the Wegovy tablet (oral semaglutide 25 mg), and nothing here recommends using it.
Where is the Wegovy pill approved?
The United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and the European Union have approved it for weight management. Singapore has not.
| Place | Approval | Source |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 22 December 2025, for adults with obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related condition | FDA |
| United Kingdom | 11 June 2026, for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with at least one weight-related condition | MHRA |
| United Arab Emirates | June 2026 | Novo Nordisk report |
| European Union | July 2026, for adults, after a positive CHMP opinion in May | Novo Nordisk report; EMA |
| Singapore | Not registered | HSA register; HSA approvals |
Singapore was checked on 9 October 2026 in two places. The full register (5,511 records, approvals to 8 July 2026) holds no tablet sold as Wegovy and no semaglutide tablet above 14 mg (HSA register), and HSA's list of approvals to 27 August 2026 has no semaglutide tablet (HSA approvals). The company's half-year report names the UAE, the UK and the EU and does not mention Singapore (Novo Nordisk report). An approval elsewhere does not register a medicine here; that is a separate decision by the Health Sciences Authority. The BMI thresholds above are the UK regulator's, not GetLean's eligibility criteria, which are set out in am I eligible.
What is the Wegovy pill, and how is it taken?
It is semaglutide, the molecule in the Wegovy injection, as a tablet taken once a day alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity (FDA). The US label lists tablets of 1.5, 4, 9 and 25 mg, started at 1.5 mg with a 25 mg maintenance dose from day 91 (US label); the UK regulator describes the same steps, with at least a month at each (MHRA).
The overseas labels attach conditions to how it is taken. The MHRA describes it as swallowed whole on an empty stomach after fasting for at least 8 hours, with a sip of water, and no food or drink for at least 30 minutes afterwards; eating or drinking sooner lowers absorption (MHRA). EMA's page and the US label describe the same routine (EMA; US label). How any medicine is taken belongs on its prescription and leaflet, not on this page.
What did the main trial find?
OASIS 4, a phase 3 trial, randomised 307 adults with overweight or obesity and without diabetes, 2 to 1, to oral semaglutide 25 mg once daily or placebo, alongside lifestyle interventions. The main endpoints were measured at week 64 (Wharton 2025).
| Arm | Mean weight change at week 64 |
|---|---|
| Oral semaglutide 25 mg | −13.6% |
| Placebo | −2.2% |
OASIS 4, phase 3, treatment-policy estimand: all randomised participants analysed (Wharton 2025; US label). Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.
Stomach and gut adverse events were reported by 74.0% on the tablet and 42.2% on placebo (Wharton 2025). The treatment-policy estimand counts every person randomised, whether or not they stayed on treatment. The company's announcements quote a higher figure for the same trial, 16.6%, on the trial product estimand, the effect if everyone had adhered to treatment; it answers a different question from the −13.6% above (Novo Nordisk). Novo Nordisk funded the trial.
How does it differ from Rybelsus, the tablet registered here?
Both are semaglutide tablets, but they are separate products. Rybelsus is the oral semaglutide on Singapore's register; the Wegovy pill has its own strengths and its own label abroad.
| Rybelsus (registered in Singapore) | Wegovy pill (approved abroad) | |
|---|---|---|
| In Singapore | Registered 1 June 2021, Prescription Only | Not registered |
| Strengths | 3 mg, 7 mg, 14 mg | 1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg, 25 mg |
| Registered use | Adults with type 2 diabetes; no weight-management indication | Not applicable here; weight management in the US, UK, UAE and EU |
| Highest daily dose in the label | 14 mg, the maximum recommended single daily dose | 25 mg maintenance dose |
Sources: HSA register; Singapore NDF; Singapore NDF dosing; US label.
The tablet doses behind the obesity trials sit above anything on Singapore's register: OASIS 4 used 25 mg, and OASIS 2, in 201 adults in Japan and South Korea, used 50 mg, a strength not among the Wegovy pill's (Wharton 2025; Kadowaki 2025). The Rybelsus page covers the registered tablet; the Foundayo page covers orforglipron, a different oral medicine also approved abroad and not registered here. Foundayo vs Wegovy pill: which works better? sets the two tablets' separate trials side by side.
What would a daily tablet change for someone starting treatment?
A tablet exists, but not in Singapore. Every GLP-1 medicine registered here for weight management is an injection, and the one registered tablet, Rybelsus, is licensed for type 2 diabetes only (HSA register; Singapore NDF). For someone put off by needles, GLP-1 without an injection and afraid of needles cover the options and the fear. Which medicine suits a person, if any, is decided by the doctor who assesses them.
What would it change, and not change, for someone already on an injection with another doctor?
It would change the form and the routine. It would not change the medicine's identity, who decides, or the plan for how treatment ends.
What it would change
- The form: a tablet every day in place of an injection every week.
- The routine: the overseas labels attach an empty-stomach condition and a wait before food or drink (MHRA; US label).
- The trial side-effect picture: stomach and gut events were more common on the tablet than on placebo (Wharton 2025).
What it would not change
- The molecule: it is semaglutide, the same molecule as the Wegovy injection.
- Who decides: the medicine and dose are chosen by the prescribing doctor. The US label does not recommend using the tablet together with other semaglutide products or other GLP-1 receptor agonists (US label).
- The need for an exit plan.
- Whether it can be prescribed here: it cannot, because it is not registered.
The UK regulator notes that, in the UK, patients treated privately with the 2.4 mg injection can be transitioned straight to the 25 mg tablet (MHRA). That is a statement about the UK label. It does not apply in Singapore and says nothing about what suits any one person.
A person moving to a new doctor brings their history with them. At GetLean, Dr Quek reviews that history before anything changes, and suitability is decided at the consultation rather than by a number.
Does a tablet change how treatment ends?
The reason for a planned exit does not depend on the form of the medicine. At GetLean, the programme is designed to end: our philosophy is that GLP-1 medication should act as a catalyst — not something to depend on indefinitely. The plan for coming off is the GetLean GLP-1 Taper Plan: after hitting your goal weight with the right nutrition and exercise habits built, the dose is stepped down at Dr Quek's monthly reviews towards your lowest effective dose and, where clinically appropriate, off the medication. GetLean is a doctor-led GLP-1 weight-loss programme in Singapore, designed to end from day one. Someone starting has the exit planned from the first consultation; someone already on a GLP-1 with another doctor has their history reviewed before anything changes.
The main measurement of what follows an overnight stop used the injection. In the STEP 1 extension, adults stopped semaglutide 2.4 mg and the trial's lifestyle support on the same day, with no taper, and regained about two-thirds of the weight they had lost within a year (Wilding 2022); individual results vary, and its figures describe the injection.
At GetLean we favour a gradual reduction under a doctor's guidance rather than a cliff-edge stop. Dr Quek steps the dose down at the monthly reviews, towards the lowest effective dose, and the daily WhatsApp coaching builds the eating pattern and the training habit while the medication is still working.
Coming off Wegovy walks through the weeks after the last dose. Coming off a GLP-1 tablet covers what is known about stopping a tablet, and what is not. Weaning off GLP-1 explains how a planned taper works, how much weight comes back after stopping covers the two-thirds figure, and the coming-off guide brings the pieces together. Never stop or change a prescribed medicine on your own.
Designed to end: a programme whose pace and taper off the medication are planned from the first consult, so the result holds after the medication stops.
Common questions
Is the Wegovy pill available in Singapore?
No. No tablet sold as Wegovy is on Singapore's register (HSA register), and none is among HSA's approvals to 27 August 2026 (HSA approvals), checked 9 October 2026. It is approved in the US, UK, UAE and EU (Novo Nordisk report).
Is the Wegovy pill the same as Rybelsus?
No. Both are semaglutide tablets, but they are separate products. Rybelsus is registered here at 3, 7 and 14 mg for type 2 diabetes only (HSA register; Singapore NDF). The Wegovy pill comes in 1.5, 4, 9 and 25 mg, is approved abroad for weight management (US label) and is not registered here.
How much weight did people lose on the Wegovy pill, and is it as effective as the injection?
In OASIS 4, a phase 3 trial of 307 adults without diabetes, weight change at week 64 was −13.6% on oral semaglutide 25 mg against −2.2% on placebo (treatment-policy estimand) (Wharton 2025). It compared the tablet with placebo, not with the injection. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.
I am already on a GLP-1 injection with another doctor. Would the pill change anything?
It would change the form (a daily tablet in place of a weekly injection) and the routine (an empty stomach and a wait before food). It would not change that it is semaglutide, that the choice is the prescribing doctor's, or the need to plan the exit. It is not registered here, so no doctor here can prescribe it.
What happens if I move to a new doctor while on a GLP-1 medication?
At GetLean, Dr Quek reviews a patient's history before anything changes, and suitability is decided at the consultation rather than by a number. Which medicine and dose, if any, follows from that review is his decision.
